You’re at a show. The band decides to come down from the stage and stand in the middle of the crowd to play an acoustic number. All of a sudden, they’re two feet away from you.
What do you do? Pull out your phone and take a close-up.
Your next move might be to upload your photo to Facebook. But what if there was a way for you to share your prize with fans at the same show you’re at, in real time? Austin-based app Vivogig lets you do that and more, and our live music-lovin’ city is the perfect testing ground for this new sharing platform.
Here’s what Vivogig does:
- For fans: Lets you upload concert photos and compete for the most votes. You can even win music and tickets through voting contests.
- For bands: Promotes you through crowd-sourced content and lets you get discovered by more fans. Unlike apps like Instagram, Vivogig photos don’t disappear into the cybersphere after being pushed out by newer photos. Instead, Vivogig curates photos from each show and continues to display them via the app.
- For venues: Gives you exposure as the spot where bands wanna play and fans wanna go.
Vivogig has been around since 2011, but the app just went through a major revamp. We got to attend the launch party for the new version at Frank, with Girl in a Coma headlining. Everyone had their phones out for the show, and the photo stream was projected for all to see.
I found that Vivogig allowed me to experience the live music in a unique way, capturing the best moments from different perspectives. I can’t be in more than one place at a time, and that means I miss details that I would see if I were on the other side of the venue, or closer to the stage. Vivogig lets me be everywhere at once. And when we’re talking about one of my favorite bands, that’s huge.
Download Vivogig for the iPhone and try it out at one of this weekend’s shows to see what I’m talking about.
