Midway Food Park Offers Good Food and Family Fun

Posted on May 15, 2014 by Matthew Champion

Midway Food Park

Busy day at Midway Food Park (Photo credit: Midway Food Park)

Editor’s Note: Midway Food Park shuttered in 2018.

Texas weather can be crazy, but living in Austin does provide you with a hefty share of beautiful days throughout the year. A good place to take advantage of those pretty days is the Midway Food Park, which offers a variety of fresh cooking and has plenty of room to stretch your legs and let the kids run all their energy out before they get home.

Midway Food Park is right off 360, about a mile shy of Westlake just past Barton Creek Mall (1905 S. Capitol of Texas Hwy). It’s also a stone’s throw from the Greenbelt, if you’re looking for more outside activities afterward. It has ten food trucks, a nice playground, an air-conditioned restroom trailer, plenty of parking and ample space to grab a table or spread out a blanket and eat picnic-style. [Read more…]

The Picnic Brings Food Trailers to Barton Springs

Posted on May 12, 2014 by Jessica Pino

The Picnic Food Trailers

If you’ve been in Austin a while, you fondly remember the collection of food trailers that used to be on South Congress at the corner of Monroe. For years, this prime stretch of real estate remained frozen in time and seemed immune to the high-rises popping up around town. But Austin grew a little less weird when it was announced in 2013 that a hotel would take the place of our beloved food trailer park.

But all is not lost. I’m happy to report that we have recovered a part of that weirdness, relocated to Barton Springs Road. The Picnic is the new home of a collection of food trailers, along with some extra perks. Equipped with a covered pavillion, ceiling fans and bathrooms, this assemblage of food trailers gathers some of the best chefs in town and creates a unique outdoor dining experience.

Coolhaus Food Truck Cools Austinites Down for Texas Summer

Posted on July 2, 2012 by Brittany Highland

Coolhaus food truck at E. 6th St. and WallerWhat other Austin food trucks do you know that offer discount passwords like “Vivanta Hotel” or “Sydney Opera House”? At first, the architectural references may seem out of character for a purveyor of ice cream sandwiches. But dig a bit deeper into the story of Coolhaus and it should start to make sense.

Founders Natasha and Freya met through a mutual friend at Cornell University. The two fast friends had something in common that not everyone does: a passion for architecture. Natasha was a student of the art who wanted to make architecture “fun and accessible.” Freya had a background in real estate and construction. Both women saw the principles they cared about being devalued, due to the recession. [Read more…]

North Austin Trailer Yard Opens at W. Anderson & Lamar

Posted on May 17, 2012 by Brittany Highland

Grand opening of North Austin Trailer YardEDITOR’S NOTE: NATY officially closed, with the last truck leaving July 8, 2013. We were sad to see it go and feel that North Austin really needs a permanent home for the food truck community.

Last Saturday, the North Austin Trailer Yard (NATY) opened up at W. Anderson and Lamar Blvd. – in the Planet Fitness parking lot.

Austinites swarmed to the city’s newest food truck conglomeration to exercise their taste buds and see the haps.

The food trailers currently located at NATY are:

  • Snarky's Moo Baa Oink at NATYJohnny T’s BBQ (Mouthwatering Texas BBQ)
  • Snarky’s Moo Baa Oink (sandwiches)
