Rugby in Austin This Saturday: Free Drinks, Live Music, Good Cause

Rugby Match

St. Crispin Cup takes place November 3rd in Austin

Click on the Play button on the podcast player above to listen to this week’s episode of the Austinot Podcast.

There’s nothing like violence in the name of sport. Tomorrow, November 3rd, just a few minutes east of downtown Austin, you’ll get your chance to revel in the ancient sport of rugby.

You may be a rugby aficionado, but you’re probably not. Either way, this event is called the St. Crispin Cup for a reason. Six free kegs of Crispin Cider and 10 cases of Crispin and Miller-Coors will be on hand to dull your rugby knowledge or lack thereof.

There will be live music throughout the day, with a trophy presentation to conclude the festivities.

You’ll find this episode of rugby in Austin at 4107 Nixon Lane, about 10 minutes east of downtown.

Schedule for the Day

There will be three rugby matches total, starting at 12 PM. Here’s the full schedule:

  • 12-1:30 PM: Huns “C” vs. Grand Prairie
  • 2-3:30 PM: Huns “A” vs. Dallas Reds “A”
  • 4-5:30 PM: Huns “B” vs. Dallas Reds “B”

This event is about more than rugby and Crispin. Soles4Souls, an organization that has delivered more than 19 million pairs of shoes to over 125 countries, will be taking shoe donations on site. If you have old pairs of shoes that are taking up room in your closet, bring them along. Not everyone has 20 pairs of shoes to pick from every day.

Huns Rugby, the event organizer, is also partnering with Movember to raise awareness for men’s health.

After Party at Recess Arcade Bar

Recess Arcade Bar is opening up their space for players and supporters starting at 9:30 PM. Ask for Nic or Terrell, who will guide you to the private entrance for the party. $2 Liquor 43 shots will be available.

We’re all about hyperlocal Austin events that are off the beaten path, and this is definitely our pick for this weekend. Hope you make it out, and don’t forget to take some shoes to donate.

Do you know the rules of rugby?
