1940s Big Band Musical at the Paramount This Sunday

January 21, 2014 by Brittany Highland 35 Comments

In the Mood Musical in Austin

In the Mood at Paramount Theatre this Sunday, January 26th

Editor’s Note: Our giveaway is now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated! Our three winners are Richard Koehler, Justin Brosig and Laura S.

Many of us feel like we were born in the wrong era. For me, I often wish I had done my growing up in the 1960’s. I can imagine myself dancing on American Bandstand and profoundly appreciating the impact of influential Americans like Kennedy and Dr. King.

If you have a love for the 1940’s – particularly Big Band music and energized swing dancing – your chance to experience the era is coming to Austin this Sunday. In the Mood is playing at the Paramount Theatre on Congress Ave., and we’re excited to give away some passes to the Austinot community!

About the Show

This short video will give you a great idea of what you’re in for if you go see In the Mood this weekend:

Now in its 20th season, the show promises to be an exciting combination of singing and dancing from a cast of nineteen people. The proof is in the reviews, with 4.4/5 stars on Ticketmaster.

“Much more than just a concert, In the Mood is a fully staged tribute to Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and the big band greats of the ’40s. Complete with authentic costumes and choreography, In the Mood pays homage to America’s greatest generation, when people listened and boogied to up-tempo big band rhythms and danced to intimate ballads.”
–In the Mood press release

In the Mood will be performed at 3 PM this Sunday. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased online from AustinTheatre.org.

How to Win

Thanks to the team at In the Mood, we’re giving away three pairs of tickets to our community!

To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment right here on this article before 7 PM CST tonight. We’ll pick the winner via Random.org and announce the winner’s name in a comment and on our Facebook page.

For more information, visit the show’s website!

One of my favorite Bette Midler songs was her cover of Bugle Boy. I’d love to win. Thanks for the generosity.

This would be awesome! I grew up listening to 40s music with my band director dad. Whenever I hear this music I think of him.

My daughter and I love big bands. She had a tough year in 2013 with health issues. It would be a huge treat for us to go and enjoy this.

Really glad to see a big band show in Austin. This is going to be pretty rad, thanks for sharing the news! 🙂 Highly recommend checking out Big Bad Voodoo Daddy next time they come to Austin. I seen them at One World Theater last year in Bee Cave, and it was pretty stellar. Also, if you’re in Vegas, hit up The Rat Pack Is Back. Gotta keep big band alive!

William and I love to dance to swing music from this era. We would go dancing somewhere every chance we could get. Swing dancing has become harder for both of us since I have had knee surgery and he is now disabled with back issues. But our toes can’t help but start tapping every time we here this music. It would be a real treat for both of us to win these tickets. Finger crossed!!! 🙂

Growing up at Grandma’s was fun in watching these movies. We would dance, sing, and boogie woogie without skipping a beat! Reminiscing to this with Gram’s in heaven would be bliss……..

Sweet! “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller Orchestra is one of my top fav songs of all time. I’d be really psyched to go and take my crush and love of my life. That would be a great surprise for the weekend after camping on Saturday and kayaking!

Count on The Paramount to be one of the few venues keeping the classics alive and well! What a joy “In The Mood” would be to see.
