How to Spend Today: Halloween Day 2026 in Austin

Posted on October 31, 2026 by Publishing Team

Halloween Day 2026 in Austin

Austin is unleashing full spooky season energy today, whether you are marveling at 10,000 glowing hand-carved gourds, joining the legendary costume revelry sweeping Sixth Street, or hunting down chilling historic lore inside the state Capitol.

Expect mostly cloudy skies with a daytime high near 77°F, cooling down to a mild 64°F tonight, with light north winds and only a slight chance of rain. It is ideal festival weather across Central Texas, but you will definitely want a light jacket and your most comfortable walking shoes once the sun dips and the party moves outside.

This is a quick summary of the top events happening today; for a complete list, check out our article Halloween Day in Austin 2026.

Today’s Halloween Day event Highlights in Austin

Start your daylight adventures on the family side with the Hill Country Galleria Halloween Treat Trail, where kids can show off their costumes and score sweet hauls from dozens of shops along an open-air promenade. If you prefer your daytime thrills spiked with eerie local lore, the Texas Capitol “Rest in Peace” Halloween Tour delivers goosebump-worthy true crime and ghost tales right under the historic rotunda.

As twilight falls, immerse yourself in the spellbinding artistry of Pumpkin Nights Austin, a glowing wonderland of illuminated pumpkin fantasy worlds and live fire dancers marking its final night of the season. Adrenaline junkies craving cinema-grade scares can brave House of Torment to go toe-to-toe with Jason Voorhees in immersive haunted mazes before decompressing at the secret 21+ vampire lounge.

When you are ready to dial up the nightlife, plunge headfirst into the madness of the 6th Street Halloween Street Party, where downtown asphalt turns into a pulsating river of outrageous DIY costumes and bar crawls. Prefer your cocktails paired with skyline views and retro grooves? Escape above the crowds to the LINE Austin Park & Scream at P6 for vintage horror beats over Lady Bird Lake, or dance under the stars across multi-level dance floors at the Fairmont Austin Haunted Rooftop Party.

What to Expect Today – Saturday, October 31, 2026 in Austin

Downtown traffic gridlock will peak heavily starting late afternoon as Sixth Street shuts down completely to vehicle traffic from Brazos Street to the I-35 frontage road. Rideshares will bottleneck hard around 5th and 7th Streets, so your best bet is using CapMetro or stashing your ride early in the Austin Convention Center garage.

For those traveling out toward Pioneer Farms or Bee Cave, watch for crawling holiday congestion along I-35 and MoPac right as evening festivities get underway.
