As a mom of three little kids, one of my favorite things about Austin is how inclusive its restaurants are for the youngest members of the community. With spring in full bloom, it’s time to get outdoors and relish everything this city has to offer. And I have the perfect event for you to check out with your family: Family Sunday Funday, hosted by backYARD at Waller Creek.
Party Like It’s Your Birthday

BackYARD at Waller Creek is commencing its annual Family Sunday Funday series, beginning March 31, 2019. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the last Sunday of the month through May, kids and parents can enjoy a birthday-party-esque event. But there’s no guest of honor, which means no last-minute stop for a gift!
Just show up, valet park, and enjoy backYARD’s beautiful grounds. Purchase food and cocktails from the restaurant’s signature 1960s Airstream food truck, and watch your kids run free in a safe environment, while doing all the things they love.
What to Expect at Family Sunday Funday
At backYARD’s Family Sunday Funday, kids can jump in the bounce house, play YARD games, explore the playscape, have their faces painted, and get balloon art made, all while enjoying live music by local talent on the property’s spacious lawn.
My family visited the space before the event launch, to peep into backYARD’s restaurant and lawn. We enjoyed it so much that my kids can’t wait to hit up Family Sunday Funday this spring!
We loved the location in the newly renovated Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol. Valet parking is just $8, which is less than many parking lots downtown.
