Much like New Year’s Eve, Halloween is a holiday that requires special planning. Deciding on a costume is the first step (and if you’re still struggling in the disguise department, Austin’s local stores have you covered). But a costume is nothing if you don’t have a place to debut it.
Here’s a list of events, activities and food specials that’ll help you rock your way through Halloween week and beyond!
Halloween Events in Austin for Adults
Check out Alamo Drafthouse in the Village on Halloween night to catch a showing of this scary blast from the past. Come and enjoy a healthy dose of fear at the screening of the 1978 film, Halloween which was indeed responsible for taking the scary festival movie genre to a whole new level.

If you are one for haunted houses, then House of Torment is for you. This Austin Halloween staple is sure to provide jolts of scares as you make your way through its many rooms. This year’s event has multiple themes including a hallucinogenic gas themed scare, a haunted and violent prison and monsters under the bed: basically the worst of all your nightmares!

Attend a Halloween-themed drag brunch brought about by Irene’s which will be hosted by special guest, Rhonda Jewels. You can enjoy good food, great drinks and even a Halloween based scary but funny performance by this special star of the brunch.

Attend a scary, adults-only performance where the undead gather and dark shadows crawl into the night. Performed by local and professional artists, this scary Halloween performance is sure to give you goosebumps and raise the level of all frightening things this season.

Austin Halloween Events For Kids
Take a day trip southeast to Bastrop to explore the Lonesome Dove Maze at Barton Hills Fall Festival. The fest has multiple pumpkin patches and corn mazes to get lost in – the largest of which can take up to an hour to complete. Stay for live music, kettle corn, caramel apples and other fall treats!

Take the kids aboard The Pumpkin Express which will take you to the sleepy town of Bertram to pick up a pumpkin from the Depot Pumpkin Patch. Bring some lunch with you and there will be beers and Bloody Mary available for purchase at Cedar Park! All ages are welcome.

Bring the family and kids to this Halloween-themed carnival at the Neill-Cochran House Museum. It’s the perfect place for children to come together and enjoy traditional crafts and games, face painting, trunk-or-treating and a bouncy house!

Halloween Parties in Austin
One of Austin’s most popular arcades will be hosting its annual Halloween party for children and adults. You’ll get to participate in a costume contest so don’t forget to wear your scary best. Winners among the grown-ups will be chosen based on categories such as Funniest, Scariest, Sexiest and Most Original.

Come and have fun at this spooky costume party and silent disco. Don’t forget to dress in your Halloween best, sway to some amazing music and enjoy a ton of food and drinks. Attend a concert on Halloween night which pays tribute to two of the most iconic bands, Grateful Dead and Phish. The show will feature some of the hit numbers by the two bands and take you back to the spectacular music of the rock groups. What’s more, it’s an all-ages concert so you can bring your family to the event and party all evening.
