#ATXUNITE Events Relieve SXSW Tension for Locals

March 10, 2016 by Brittany Highland 18 Comments

Free Franklin BBQ ATXUNITE

On March 14, Austin locals have the opportunity to get free Franklin BBQ through the #ATXUNITE campaign

The Austinot is not about promoting corporations from out of town. In fact, we’re serious about our hyperlocal focus, meaning we only publish articles about businesses, artists and events that were founded in Austin and continue to be based here.

But when a company from outside Austin goes to such great lengths to support Austin businesses and take care of the locals, we can’t help but get behind them. And that’s what Verizon is doing during SXSW for the second year in a row, with their #ATXUNITE campaign.

Keep reading to find out how you can have the chance to take advantage of some major goodies that will relieve your SXSW tension and blunt the pain of that hour-long commute.

#ATXUNITE Events

Dart Bowl hosts leagues six days a week.

Join #ATXUNITE at Dart Bowl on March 18, where people have been bowling since 1958.

For 2016, there are a number of special #ATXUNITE events planned for Austinites only. If you have an Austin ID, you can get access. Our team at Austinot.com has some tickets to give away, and you can also get tickets directly from Verizon by following the #ATXUnite hashtag on Twitter and Instagram.

Here are the events we’re most excited about:

  • Free Franklin BBQ: On Monday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Franklin BBQ is opening its doors to serve free BBQ meals to Austinites, courtesy of #ATXUNITE. The immensely popular Austin joint is typically closed on Monday, so this is a real treat. A total of 500 meals will be served, at no cost to Austin locals. –>See our photos from last year’s event.<–
  • Free Bowling at Dart Bowl: On Friday, March 18, from 8-10 p.m., enjoy an epic night of bowling at Dart Bowl. I love that #ATXUNITE is supporting this Austin institution and introducing more people to it. Many new residents don’t even know Dart Bowl exists.

There are many more #ATXUNITE giveaways and events planned for SXSW 2016, with involvement from other beloved Austin businesses including Hey Cupcake!, Tiff’s Treats, Torchy’s Tacos and Dominican Joe. Don’t miss out! All you have to do is follow the #ATXUNITE hashtag and The Austinot on Twitter and Instagram to have a chance at access.

Verizon ATXUNITE Team

Last year, Verizon’s #ATXUNITE team treated locals to lunch at The Picnic on Barton Springs

A big thank you to Verizon and the #ATXUNITE team for taking care of Austinites and putting a SX-smile on our faces.

This is the best news I’ve heard all week! Nothing better than Franklin’s — especially with all the rain and crazy traffic. #atxunite

Franklin’s would be an -awesome- way to kick off the week. Sadly I don’t have an Instagram or Twitter account anymore.
