Each year, Austinites eagerly anticipate the return of the 101X Summer Cinema Series where they can escape the crazy day to day routine, relax and enjoy a good movie in good company. Last year’s event included films like Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Goonies and Back to The Future.
It’s finally that time of year again. After much deliberation, the votes are in and 101X has released this year’s feature film schedule. The 10th season kicks off July 1st at Central Market (4001 N Lamar Blvd) with The Sandlot.
Know Before You Go
One of the best parts about the Summer Cinema Series is the completely free admission. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and anything comfy to sprawl out on. Food specials are available in the cafe, and guests 21 and up can enjoy ice cold Blue Moon drafts from the Cabana. 101X will also have prize giveaways throughout the event, so make sure to stick around and listen for your name!
All films start at dusk, around 8:30 PM, but viewers may want to get there earlier to stake out a good spot. It’s also a good idea to account for parking time because we all know how long that takes. Luckily, there is additional parking provided at the Heart Hospital of Austin parking garage on the third floor and above.
Sit Tight for Another Great Season
Each showing brings out a nice crowd and is always a great way to spend a summer evening. It’s the perfect setting for any occasion, from a cute date night to fun time with family and friends The series continues with family favorites National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Hook in July. August 12th’s film is none other than cult classic The Princess Bride, and the final showing for 2015 will take place on August 26th: Empire Records.
101X Summer Cinema Series is presented with support from Sharpe Vision, Metro PCS and Gold’s Gym. More information including a detailed schedule can be found on the 101X website and Facebook page.
