Guys. I just discovered a great dieting trick: only buy chocolates that are too pretty to eat.
Just kidding, that doesn’t work at all. But if you are looking to indulge, check out east Austin chocolatier, Maggie Louise Confections, where the treats look more like art than candy.
National Appeal, Local Feel
Maybe you’ve heard of a little list called Oprah’s Favorite Things? Yeah, Maggie made that list. Oh, and Martha Stewart’s. Maggie was chosen as a 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Award Finalist. No big deal. Vogue Magazine? Check. NBC’s Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda? Maggie’s been there, done that, too.
Coast to coast demand aside, Maggie and her family couldn’t be happier right here in Austin. “We love, love, love Austin! It is the perfect mix of outdoor fun, creative energy and wonderful people. I am so lucky that my husband’s work brought us here.”
Maggie Louise’s Story
Classically trained at Le Cordon Bleu, Maggie Callahan has a serious sweet tooth, a knack for business and a mission to create beautiful candy to share with the world. Her former career as a lawyer left her feeling unsatisfied. She took a risk and redirected her life in a much sweeter direction.
Art and chocolate are two of Maggie’s passions. So when the idea struck, she went to work testing and creating edible masterpieces with fair trade Venezuelan chocolate.
Candy Making Inspiration
Maggie’s muse is her surroundings. Fashion shows, interior design magazines and old Hollywood glamour contribute to our local candy artist’s repertoire.
Maggie freely admits she doesn’t even bother herself with other chocolatiers’ creations. There’s no point. She finds what she loves and makes candy out of it, whether her inspiration is an interesting fabric she saw on vacation, something vibrant in nature or a lavish costume on a runway.
Unique Gifts
We all know hard-to-buy-for people. Luckily, everyone loves chocolate and Maggie lives for challenges. “We recently did a set of chocolate boxes featuring the Wonders of the World in a winter wonderland style.” She has created dinosaurs, makeup sets, Egyptian mummies and camels, even a chocolate fried egg.
Basically, if you want it in chocolate form, Maggie can do it.
Wait, This Is a Chocolate Shop?
Stepping into Maggie Louise Confection’s eastside boutique is an experience. From the black and white herringbone floors to the custom built jewelry case style displays, it’s unlike any other chocolate shop. Each display tells a tale. “We also sell a selection of in-store only chocolates, plus gifts and serving pieces that complement our products, such as gold porcelain skulls and cake plates,” Maggie mentions.
So sweet, you really should stop by.
