When I think of southern comfort food, fried chicken immediately comes to mind. Throw in some biscuits, collard greens, and black-eyed peas, and I’m beyond happy. A meal like this reminds me of the warm welcome that’s an essential part of southern hospitality.
Lucy’s Fried Chicken is all of that and more. The casual eatery has been serving classic fried chicken and its accompaniments since 2011. No matter where you reside in Austin, there is now a Lucy’s near you.
Here’s why you should check out this local eatery.
Fried Chicken Plus All the Fixings
When I’m in the mood for some fried chicken, Lucy’s is one of the best places in Austin to satisfy my craving. It’s casual, family-friendly, and the food is delicious.
You can find traditional fried chicken or my personal favorite, the Tender-lovin’ chicken tenders. The chicken is flavorful and moist–just as it should be.
If you’re a fan of side dishes, you should know Lucy’s has all the favorites: slaw and black-eyed peas, to collard greens and fried okra.
For those who want something different, Lucy’s will get you feeling weird as every Austinite should. Go for the deep fried deviled eggs or fried chicken gizzards. Lucy’s doesn’t shy away from the “bits.”
A truly unexpected twist in the menu comes in the form of oysters. Besides a raw bar with Gulf oysters, there are four specialty types of wood-fired, grilled oysters. My personal favorite is the Austin (naturally), with tequila butter, lime, chili sauce, and cotija cheese.

I’ll Meet You At The Bar
If Texas beer is your thing, then you’ll be happy to know Lucy’s has all Texas beer on tap. The restaurant also has a selection of cans and bottles, wine, and signature cocktails.
You’ll recognize local spirits on the menu, like Dripping Springs Vodka and Deep Eddy Vodka in the Hee-Hawlapeno and Pink Impaula cocktails, respectively.

Southern Hospitality at Lucy’s Fried Chicken
Some of my favorite places are the ones that make me feel welcomed and at ease. The vibe at Lucy’s is laid-back, almost like you’re headed to a picnic with your basket of fried chicken (or bucket, in this case).
I think food tastes better when it’s made with love, stays true to its roots, and is shared with all. The large tables and shareable buckets of chicken will have you feeling right at home in no time.
If you’re planning to surrender to your next fried chicken craving, then give Lucy’s Fried Chicken a try. There are now four locations to choose from: South Congress, On the Lake, Burnet Road, and Cedar Park. Lucy’s can even cater your next event with either full-service or drop off catering.
