How to spend today - Memorial Day 2026 in Austin

Austin is buzzing this Memorial Day with a perfect blend of high-energy competition and heartfelt community tributes. Whether you’re looking to challenge your limits at the Supertri or pay your respects at one of the many local ceremonies, there’s a way for everyone to honor the day.

Expect scattered thunderstorms throughout the afternoon with a high of 31°C, though the morning looks mostly sunny at 22°C. Comfort Tip: It’s going to be humid (87%) with a high UV index, so wear breathable fabrics and keep a light poncho handy for those later-day showers.

This is a quick summary of the top events happening today; for a complete list, check out our article Memorial Day Events Austin 2026.

Today’s Memorial Day event Highlights in Austin

For those ready to move, the Ascension Seton Supertri Austin is the main event downtown this morning. Olympic racers hit Lady Bird Lake at 7:00 am, followed by Sprint and SuperSprint waves. It’s a high-energy atmosphere as athletes bike past the Capitol and run through Butler Park. If you’re spectating, head to the Finish Line Festival for live music and a great community vibe. Pro Tip: If you’re driving, the Palmer Events Center garage is open, but rates jump to $20 today.

For a more community-focused and reflective tribute, head to Old Settlers Park for the Memorial Day: Remember and Honor Event in Round Rock. Starting at 10:00 am, this heartfelt ceremony brings the community together to pay tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service. With a program featuring guest speakers and full military honors, it’s a powerful environment for families to teach the younger generation about sacrifice while enjoying light refreshments and patriotic music. Arrival Tip: The ceremony takes place near the Veterans Memorial—aim to arrive 20 minutes early as parking at Old Settlers Park can fill up quickly on holiday mornings.

To wind down the holiday, check out Memorial Day Yoga at Lucille. Starting at 12:30 pm on Rainey Street, this $10 Vinyasa flow on the patio is the ultimate “Austin” way to recharge. It’s laid-back and welcoming—perfect for shaking off the morning’s humidity before grabbing a drink on the patio.

What to Expect Today – Monday, May 25, 2026 in Austin

Expect significant downtown congestion and road closures near Lady Bird Lake and the Texas Capitol until early afternoon due to the Supertri bike and run courses. Most City of Austin administrative offices, libraries, and recreation centers are closed today, though trash collection remains on its normal schedule. If you are heading to the Georgetown parade, arrive by 8:30 am to secure a spot along Baldwin Street before the 9:00 am start.
