Cornucopia Rethinks Popcorn With Bizarre and Delicious Flavors

September 6, 2016 by Brittany Highland Leave a Comment

Cornucopia Gourmet Popcorn Austin

You can sample more than 30 flavors of gourmet popcorn at Cornucopia’s two locations in Austin

Voted “Best Sampling Room” in Austin in 2015 by the Austin Chronicle, Cornucopia is a place where you can enjoy yourself while discovering sweet and savory treats to pass onto others. As the name suggests, this local business creates a wide range of popcorn flavors, with a special emphasis on seasonal varieties.

Owner and “Poperator” Nadia Elhaj founded Cornucopia in 2008, envisioning popcorn as “a canvas for flavor and fun.” She has always loved the idea of taking something that’s been around for generations, popcorn, and giving it a fresh twist.

Do You Dare Try These Flavors?

The phrase fresh twist definitely applies here. When I opened my box of samples, I was surprised to find flavors like Dill Pickle, Cheesy Caramel, Pina Colada and Chile Lime. While I never could wrap my mind around Dill Pickle, I loved all the other options! My sweet tooth naturally pushed me toward flavors like Butter Pecan (my favorite), but I also got a kick out of the more creative choices.

The creativity definitely comes from the top down. When I asked Elhaj about her favorite popcorn flavor, she told me, “My favorite popcorn flavor changes on the daily! Today it’s Honey Mustard! But I also love S’mores, Dill Pickle and Sweet & Smokey Barbecue.”

Cornucopia Popcorn for the Masses

As far as I’m concerned, Cornucopia popcorn isn’t meant to be eaten alone. At least half the fun comes from talking about the bizarre flavors. Use them for corporate catering, wedding favors or include a big bowl at your next event. You could even play a party game where guests try to figure out which flavor they’re eating!

Cornucopia takes pride in coming up with new flavors every season, like Hatch Green Chile. They also try to use local vendors for food and packaging material as much as possible. This local love is an extension of the support Cornucopia has received from the Austin community. “Instead of going to the largest national supplier of popcorn, the Austin population loves finding a home-grown solution to whatever they are looking for. We have been well supported by our community and we hope to be a small part of what Keeps Austin Weird,” Elhaj shared.

Sample Cornucopia’s 30+ flavors at two locations: 3211 Red River St. and 7318 McNeil Dr. The business delivers in Austin and ships nationwide. Learn more at cornucopiapopcorn.com.
