Austin Aztex Soccer Team Gains Following With Successful Season

May 29, 2013 by Dustin Vegas 36 Comments

Everybody knows that Austin is a sports town. We zealously support our home teams. Now the Austinot is giving you another opportunity to fly your local colors.

The Austin Aztex is the official soccer team of our capital city. With a loyal following across the city, the Aztex brings high competition soccer to Austin. Whether you are a long-term fan or a complete novice, you need to experience the soccer scene in Austin.

About the Austin Aztex

Austin Aztex Soccer Team Playing Game

The Austin Aztex is a minor league soccer team that’s cut from the cloth that makes Austin such a great city. To show you what I mean, here’s the team’s mission statement from its website:

The Austin Aztex are committed to being Austin’s professional soccer team, while providing a winning and entertaining style of soccer. We will represent Austin by building strong local partnerships, developing local players, and serving as a resource to the local soccer community.

Local business, talented community athletes, and a passionate fan base make the Aztex this city’s ideal team. If you support the following goals, then you probably are (or should become) an Aztex fanatic:

    • Bringing high-level soccer to Austin
    • Turning talented players into professional players
    • Cultivating a passionate soccer culture in Central Texas
    • Supporting local business whenever possible

These goals may seem lofty to some people. Austin, Texas is deep in football country, so other sports may seem under-represented here. While Austin does bleed burnt orange for our Longhorns football, the soccer community is perhaps even more passionate. Fans root on the Aztex from the stands of House Park on a weekly basis, not to mention the pubs showing the games as well.

The Aztex fans celebrate for good reason, too. The talent of the Aztex coaching staff and players is hard to rival. The team has sent dozens of their players into professional soccer around the world, and many MLS aficionados respect the team’s impressive tournament record.

Austin Aztex Soccer Player in Action

As of right now, the Aztex is leading the pack among its league. The team is currently undefeated during this season, after traveling across state to defeat formidable teams like the Laredo Heat.

But all that may change on June 1, 2013. The Aztex face the team they are tied with for the lead: Oklahoma City FC. Austin versus Oklahoma to see who comes out on top. Sound familiar? It is sure to be a clash of titans, and you can be a part of the action as it goes down this Saturday.

How to Win Tickets to Saturday’s Game [Contest Closed]

The Austinot is offering two sets of four Aztex tickets each. You can use the tickets at any Aztex game. Bring your friends or family along at absolutely no cost. Each set of tickets has a $40 value, and you’ll experience an evening of high-action soccer for free.

Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. We will randomly choose two winners from among those who leave a comment. The cut-off for the giveaway is 7 PM on May 30, 2013.

Don’t miss the chance to support an incredibly talented group of athletes who make Austin proud. See why people have been talking about Austin soccer and the Austin Aztex!

@DustyVegas asks:

Have you been to an Aztex game before? What did you think?

I am a fan of the Aztex and go to the games and would encourage one and all to get out to a game. This team is a great assent to the community here in Austin. So forget about football for a few months and watch some soccer it is a great sport and worth a look you will be hook. I would like to say do not give the tickets to me. Give them to some who has never been to a game it a great way to get newbie to the sport.

I went to a match last season vs New Orleans and it was a great experience at House Park. The fans were really into the action, the quality on the field was great, and the drama was riveting to the end. I’m actually already planning on going to this Saturday’s match vs OKC!

The games are great. House Park is a great venue but I wish they could figure out a way to sell beer. Would increase atmosphere, profits, and attendance. Although I would prefer House Park without beer to a suburb venue with beer.
