The first time I ate a crepe, it was love at first bite. Add to that a cup of delicious coffee, and I’m completely smitten. So when I tried Cafe Creme, I knew I had found something special in the Austin community.
Cafe Creme has put a lot of love into their family-run bakery over the last four years. This is evident in their delicious food offerings, but also in the community they’ve created. The atmosphere is lively, yet relaxed. People can go to Cafe Creme to socialize, eat tasty food, or even work.
Sisters Kimmi and Sue Duong bring their Vietnamese and French backgrounds to the menu at Cafe Creme. They’ve incorporated bagel sandwiches and crepes, something the Austin food scene seemed to be lacking. The crepes are a staple. They’re so good, you’ll want to savor every bite before ordering another one.
Crepes, Coffee, and More
Cafe Creme has a delicious array of menu options, including both sweet and savory crepes. If you’re craving something more savory, try the Crepe Madame. It’s filled with smoked ham and Swiss cheese, then drizzled with rosemary honey mustard and topped with a sunny-side up egg. It’s perfect for breakfast or lunch, which is served until 3 p.m.
If you have a sweet tooth, the Nottingham will not disappoint. This crepe is filled with fresh strawberries and cream cheese, then topped with whipped cream, sliced almonds, and more strawberries.
Cafe Creme also offers breakfast tacos, breakfast sandwiches, salads, and a selection of baked goods. Everything is baked on site each morning.
If you’re in need of a caffeine fix, Cafe Creme has you covered. They offer all of the traditional coffee and espresso favorites, as well as some of their own creations.
Local craft beer and wine were recently added to the menu to keep the atmosphere at Cafe Creme fun and inviting.
Live Music and Social Gatherings
Every year, the cafe hosts a music series in the spring and fall*. Music plays a large role in the atmosphere at Cafe Creme. The cafe is adorned with band stickers, which was one of the first things I noticed upon entering the cafe for the first time. The music series showcases several musical styles that are not as well known in Austin, such as avant jazz and improvised music.
Cafe Creme can also cater your next business lunch or social event. The space is large with several tables to choose from, but conference rooms are also available to reserve.
*The fall music series is in full swing through Nov. 17, 2017. Check their website (linked below) for a list of upcoming performances.
Lasting Impressions of Cafe Creme
Family is really important to Cafe Creme. The Duong sisters started the business and the small staff is treated as family. You’re greeted by smiling faces from everyone behind the counter, so you feel at home, too. I can’t wait to go back, work my way through the rest of the crepe menu, and catch a live band.
