Austin ice skating has returned to the rooftop of downtown’s Whole Foods location, and you can enjoy this wintery activity through January 11, 2015! It is real ice, so Austinites can relive children memories or expose their own children to this strange frozen substance we don’t see a lot of in Austin.
Admission to Ice Skating on the Plaza is $10 per person, but area non-profits can apply for a free skate night. Now in its eighth year, the skating rink is open from 11 AM-9 PM daily (except for special holiday hours listed below). Shoe sizes range from 8 Juniors to 14 Mens.
Tunes play overhead as you test your skating skills, and there are even themed nights like Holiday Sweater Night. Whole Foods told the Austinot theme nights will be listed on the store’s calendar.
Special Holiday Hours
The ice skating rink has special hours for the upcoming holidays:
- Christmas Eve: 11 AM-6 PM
- Christmas Day: Closed
- New Years Eve: 11 AM-8 PM
- New Years Day: 11 AM-7 PM
There are a small handful of private parties scheduled, and the rink will be closed to the public during those times. Check the schedule before you go!
Like many activities this time of year, now is the best time to visit the skating rink if you want to avoid the crowds when school lets out and family comes into town for the holidays.
Whole Foods’ ice skating rink is located on the rooftop at 525 N Lamar Blvd. Thanks to Ice Skating on the Plaza, we get to enjoy a slice of Winter Wonderland in Austin this year!
