New Wave Ball 80s Party to Benefit Austin Children’s Shelter

February 21, 2012 by Eric Highland 2 Comments

Break out the Aquanet and dust off your parachute pants, Austin. This Friday, February 24th, is the New Wave Ball 80s Dance Party, to benefit the Austin Children’s Shelter!

The 80s was the pop culture era:  MTV actually had videos, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys had B-Boys carrying their cardboard and JVC boom-boxes around, and the Material Girl was at the top of the charts. Wait, she just did halftime at the Superbowl, right? Folks, the 80s are alive and well.  So hop in your DeLorean, hit that 88 mph mark and pop in your Huey Lewis and the News tape.

The New Wave Ball is going to be fresh and like totally awesome.

Do you remember the 80s? Boys with their GI Joes, and girls with My Little Pony. Everyone had the Rubik’s Cube, we wanted our MTV and we all had the power of Greyskull.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you didn’t experience the 80s.

But this Friday at SPEAKEASY (412 Congress), from 8 PM-2 AM, the New Wave Ball will give you the chance to experience the magic of the 80s right here in Austin.

The Austinot is not getting paid to post about this event. We found out about it, it sounds like a lot of fun and it’s for a good cause, so we want to pass the word on to you. What other reasons could we need?

So read on Miami Vice fan, because not only does this event bring back the pop culture era, it benefits the AUSTIN CHILDREN’S SHELTER and that is just totally rad.  The Austin Children’s Shelter’s Mission: “Protects and heals children, young adults and families in need.”

And if you or your company can throw down a sponsorship for as little as $500, there is an anonymous donor who is matching up to $30,000, dollar for dollar.  For sponsorship info click HERE.

Of course there will be a costume contest with great prizes and 80s music all night long.

Check out some photos from last year’s 2011 New Wave Ball from ANNIE RAY and FIREFLOWER.

Also, there will be a live auction and raffle. Here are the items up for auction:

  • Two (2) SXSW wristbands
  • Camcorder
  • Key Bar $25 GC
  • Austin Java $20 GC
  • Magnolia Café GC
  • Shady Grove GC
  • 2 Go Local Cards
  • Private Wine Tasting for 15 led by Bill Elsey, winner of the 2011 Texas Best Sommelier Competition
  • One night stay at Hilton Garden Inn
  • Eddie Vedder Tickets Bass – 7thRow Center
  • Young the Giants Tickets at Stubbs
  • 101X sit-in with Jason and Deb
  • Bob Schneider VIP Table for 4 at Saxon Pub
  • Intergalactic Nemesis for 4 at Long Center
  • Texas Sphere Ride for 4

And the raffle will be for all kinds of cool Austin area stuff.  Check out the entire raffle list by clicking HERE.

So come on out, Austin! Friday the 24th, New Wave Ball, Austin Children’s Shelter Benefit!

Support a great cause and have a totally rad time!

Are you a child of the 80s?

Oh man this looks fun!!! I hope you get a great turn out… I would soooo love to go, I am DEFINITELY a child of the 80s. Fingerless lace gloves, big bangs and mismatched neon socks, baby!

I’d love to see that Evin. I’m sure you could pull it off nicely. Everyone forgets about the pegging of the jeans though.. we all did that back in the day haha.
