Take a Look at Home Slice Pizza’s New Digs on North Loop

Home Slice Pizza opened its original oven on Nov. 16, 2005. Owners Jen and Joseph Strickland and Terri Hannifin set out to bequeath New York-style pizza to a BBQ-heavy, pizza-deprived Austin, Texas. Since then, the trio has spread authentic mozzarella roots into the heart of our community, becoming one of the most loved joints in Austin.

Why You Should Head to North Loop

Friendly face at the By the Slice window

The new Home Slice location has seen a constant swell of hungry customers since its opening. From experience, I can tell you it’s the perfect food option for people living or working north.

There’s outdoor seating with a misting system to keep customers cool, indoor seating, and the essential By the Slice window (also featuring a cooling mist for guests). To top it off, there’s an outdoor play area for kids, consisting of variously sized mounds and tunnels for maximum zooming. There hasn’t yet been a night when I haven’t seen the place packed.

Home Slice has maintained a high level of culinary creativity, as well, coming up with experimental pies on a regular basis while maintaining the authentic recipe. My favorite is the off-menu mega meal called The Vatican, ordered only by those in the know.

The Vatican consists of an Italian Sub inside a meat calzone, a meal so good it could only have been devised by the Queen of Pies herself (Jen Strickland). I have yet to order it at the North Loop location, but I encourage you to go big or go home on your next outing.

In addition to great pizza and fun, neighborly aesthetic (which shines bright in the quaint strip of restaurants, vintage clothing stores, and food trucks on North Loop), Home Slice features a great selection of libations at the fully-stocked outdoor bar.

Bright colors, retro-style architecture, and comfortable seating make Home Slice North stand out as welcoming and good-humored, while the old brick facade adds historical gravitas. Homage to the infamous New York slice, perfectly set to the tune of Austin.
