I think I found a new (healthy) addiction that’s as unique and refreshing as the city in which it was founded. It’s called High Brew, and if you were at Austin City Limits 2014 you might have had the chance to try it.
High Brew is a cold-brewed coffee that came into being because of two adventurous Austinites who saw a need for convenient iced-coffee.
For Those Who Do
You’ve heard the saying, “There aren’t enough hours in the day.” Especially during the holidays, I rarely have time to go to one of those big chain coffee shops…Sure, I could make coffee at home, but it’s not the super high-quality coffee I actually want…And yeah, I could drive over to SoCo and pick up a Turbo at Jo’s. But then I’d have to deal with traffic. Gross.
So here’s what I’ve been doing: stocking my fridge with High Brew. It tastes great and is more convenient (and less expensive) than going to coffee shops for iced coffee (I still love you, Caffe Medici).
Why Cold?
The cold-brewing process makes a smoother tasting coffee. No one likes acidity to overpower their java. That’s why so many of us add milk and sugar to hot coffee – to mask the bitterness.
But cold-brewing takes time, and most busy Austinites just don’t have the patience for cold-brewing at home. We’ve got hipster things to try and live music to hear!
Here’s the Thing About Caffeine…
Caffeine gets you going – it sparks ideas. While I was trying all the varieties of High Brew, I had some recipe ideas. The thought process went something like this: I bet this would be great in Tito’s oh my god what about in a milkshake with bananas and chopped-up almonds what flavor would be the best with banana probably Mexican Vanilla I wonder if I could bake with High Brew like what if I swapped out water or milk in an instant cookie mix yeah because there’s no way I’m actually baking a batch of cookies I’d burn something the Double Espresso would be perfect in an instant muffin mix where’s my muffin tins?
Oh, did I mention most flavors of High Brew contain 139mg and the Double Expresso flavor contains 163mg of caffeine (a 6 oz cup of hot coffee typically only has 95mg)? It’s damn good. And you will get things done.

My favorite is Double Espresso and I’m not even normally a coffee fan! (Which is ironic as the Media Coordinator for High Brew Coffee.) Thanks for a great post!
