What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say these two words…juice cleanse! Be honest, because I know firsthand that a small dictionary of words and very graphic images came to my mind when I was asked if I’d like to try out the 3-day Sunshine Cleanse from Daily Juice.
I learned a tremendous lesson while researching for this story: juice cleanses are not a fit for everyone. However, I did give the cleanse my all. A provider of cold-pressed juices and catering options, Daily Juice bars keep the green in Austin’s weird, and in your diet. Since 2003, Daily Juice has set up multiple operations in downtown Austin and Westlake. Today Phillip Doucette, Robert Larkin and John Martin have turned a juice craze into a sustainable business with spin-offs like JuiceLand and franchises.
Belly Up to the Juice Bar
In a city flooded with new dining options, food trailers and competitively beautiful cocktail lounges, it’s tough to remember to give your body a well-deserved timeout, cleansing your system of toxins. Daily Juice uses organic, unpasteurized products to fill a menu with unique, quick and made-to-order options for the occasional juicer or lifestyle juicer. Doucette, Larkin and Martin are using this model to sell to franchisees and add jobs to the economy.
Every menu item served is vegan, which naturally eases nutrients into the body. However, in some cases, the juicing process can disrupt the typical feeling of nourishment.
With plans to expand to Dallas, Houston and other cities by 2014, the trio of owners is projecting a total launch of one hundred locations over the next three years.
The Daily Juice family and each of their highly invested employees boast a healthy and balanced lifestyle, to accompany clean and happy insides. The guided cleanses are an involved, but beneficial, way to kick-start your way to body zen. At minimum, each cleanse option is accompanied by an e-book packed with step-by-step prep instructions (which I highly recommend you do not overlook or go without), a supply of cold-pressed organic juice, daily emails offering tips, techniques and inspiration, as well as informative videos from New Earth Center.
Arttemis, founder at New Earth Center and developer of the Daily Juice Cleanse Programs says he can help provide “new perspectives on healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your body at all levels.” He and his partner, Krystall, will help to keep you on track throughout your cleanse.
Daily Juice currently has three cleanse programs to choose from:
- 3 Day Sunshine Cleanse
- 7 Day Fresh Start
- The Love Cleanse
My Juice Cleanse: Highs and Lows
Let’s backtrack to my initial question of what comes to mind when you hear the words “juice cleanse.” Trying to plan an opportune time to participate in a cleanse is much like figuring out which day of the week you should stop breathing. It turns out that “Poo Ponderings,” as discussed by Arttemis, is a common concern. He approaches these concerns with frank facts that will help any juicer prep and make their way through some of the most difficult parts of a cleanse.
Another slightly uncomfortable thing you may experience during your cleanse are periods of strong emotion. However, you are also opened up to healing and awakening of the body that will round out your cleansing journey and can lead to larger lifestyle transformation.
You can visit any Daily Juice location to try one of more than ten grab-and-go items. The drinks are organized by category, benefit, and almost 50 different superfood ingredients.
A few final words to all those juice cleanse noobs out there: the program is made to provide a healthy, safe and guided way to clean up your system. It’s common to experience a bit of anxiety, cravings and emotional merry-go-rounds during your first or fiftieth cleanse, which is why it’s important to try to get adequate sleep and live with a light and happy heart during the journey.
Check out a Daily Juice bar during the dog days of summer for a light and healthy meal alternative that you can sip up through a straw.

It’s one thing to go buy juice but it’s totally another to make your own. Making your own is easy, just gotta know some good recipes.

Thanks @55f7ed212897fea75acb2efe5835ff4a:disqus. I actually got a juicer for my birthday from Brittany and have been juicing quite regularly. So far my favorite is 4 apples, 4 oranges and 2 carrot mix. #nomnom
