You may have thought that Austin Shakespeare performances were left behind when midsummer nights turned to fall. Fortunately, you would be wrong.
After last year’s successful performance of The Winter’s Tale, Present Company Theatre is back with Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar premieres tonight at 7 PM and will run every Friday-Sunday through November 4, 2012. In other words, there will be nine performances total for you to choose from.
What to Expect
Believe it or not, this event is free. A $10/person donation is suggested, but you won’t be turned away at the entrance if you forgot to hit up the ATM.
You’re welcome to bring in blankets and a picnic meal. Dripping Springs Vodka is a sponsor of the event, and will be serving a signature drink called “The Roman Mule.” Everyone’s getting into the Shakespeare spirit!
Where to Find Shakespeare on the Farm
The venue is Rain Lily Farm in East Austin, just a few minutes downtown. Normally at 914 Shady Lane, you’ll find organic vegetables, fresh-egg-laying chickens and dairy goats. But with Shakespeare in town, you’re in for a strange – but delightful – mixing of urban farming and ancient tragedy. We’ve been trying to tell you that Austin is weird.
Austin City Limits may be over, but the celebration of the arts in Austin continues. This is definitely a low-key entertainment option as you continue your ACL recovery, and our top pick for the weekend.
Note: as always, this article is only a summary of our podcast episode. Click play on the podcast player at the top of the article for more on Julius Caesar and what to expect from the performance!
