Interested in fighting the good fight against cancer and looking beautiful while you do it? Austin Beauty Guide and the Austin chapter of Susan G. Komen® joined forces on November 9-10, 2013 at the Palmer Events Center, and came out swinging in pink for the inaugural Beauty360 Expo.
Founder and Organizer of Beauty360, Meredith Davis, and over 50 vendors spent two days sharing the complete experience of inner and outer beauty and wellness. In an effort to raise awareness for screenings, raise funds and simply to make people feel beautiful, many of Austin’s local businesses were accounted for, offering mini beauty treatments, pop-up fitness classes, product samples and more.
If you didn’t make it to this year’s event, take this virtual tour with me and learn about health and wellness companies that are active year-round.
Detox: Mind and Body
Many of you know I do love to challenge my palate, but this was a first, even for me. I drank clay, before lunch! Yes, you heard me correctly. Living Clay® is a local company that creates products such as detox powder, body cream, skin scrubs and masks, made from Calcium Bentonite Clay which they claim to be “so pure you can eat it!” Additionally, the team members at Living Clay® are happy to introduce and educate you about the clay. You can find their products online or at many local retailers, including another Austin favorite, Whole Foods. Although I cannot make any promises about ingesting more of this clay, I am wearing a Living Clay® mask as I write today!
After my experience with a 3 day juice cleanse I came to the quick conclusion that cold pressed juices make a great meal supplement for me. Skinny Limits is a new kid in town and reaffirms that “plant powered meals” are a hit in Austin. Their menu speaks to an active, savvy and up-tempo lifestyle, and sells more than your average juice and smoothie bar. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free folks can find a variety of meals to grab on the go, such as Zucchini Pad Thai and a Rawkin’ Taco Salad. You can order online or, better yet, book a Smoothie Party for your office.
Grab a Seat, But Don’t Sit Down
Resolute Fitness is on the fast track, with two Austin locations and two other Texas locations scheduled to open in 2014. The concept has combined cycling and yoga under one roof, offering a variety of class levels that are designed to complement one another. It’s power fitness, endurance, strength and stretching, all rolled into one membership. With crafty motivational verbiage, Resolute marks their memberships as such:
- Decided – 2 classes/week: $99/month
- Determined – 4 classes/week: $149/month
- Resolute – Unlimited: $169/month
Trending Now: The Box Mailer
Whether you want to spruce up your skin and hair, or your underwear, there’s a box for that! BlushBox is on a mission to show women the sexy side of life while maintaining class, style and having fun. Subscribers of BlushBox get sassy deliveries four times a year that empower the inner diva and just might make someone blush. (Priced at $49.99-mini box and $99.00-full sized box).
Beauty Box 5 offers membership at a flat rate of $12/month with twelve beauty by mail surprises delivered to your door each year. The boxes sport a familiar color which sits in the Tiffany Blue family and are filled with cosmetic products ranging in size from travel, deluxe to full size samples.
Throughout the two day Beauty360 Expo, many of Austin’s medical, health, beauty and business elite gathered to present educational information to attendees. The schedule boasted individuals who are affiliated with identifiable brands such as Project Runway, Austin Fashion Week, NBC’s Fashion Star, Rae Cosmetics and many more stars in their industries.
Feeling empowered, educated and enlightened at the close of a day at Beauty360 Expo, I was able to embrace the importance of health and acknowledge that one in eight women will fight breast cancer during their lifetime. The Beauty360 Expo donated 20% of ticket sales and 100% of raffle sales to the Austin affiliate of Susan G. Komen®, which will aid in the continuation of free breast cancer screenings, education and medical support to those in need.
