6 Things to Eat and Do in Austin on Mother’s Day

May 7, 2015 by Matthew Champion Leave a Comment

Mother's Day 2015

The day is quickly approaching when we show our love for our moms and want to make them feel extra special. There’s a bounty of Mother’s Day activities and events going on in Austin, so no need to fret if you’ve waited until the last minute to make plans.

Below are a few of my local favorites that will show Mom your appreciation this Sunday.

#1 Threadgill’s

Get some mimosas for your mama at Threadgill’s this Mother’s Day. They’ll be offering a free mimosa to all moms on their special day. Pair that drink with Threadgill’s signature comfort food and live music – Gospel downtown and Bluegrass at the North Lamar location – and you’ve got yourself a fine day out.

#2 Olive and June

Take Mom to local favorite Olive & June, where they’ll be serving a four-course menu at $42/person consisting of dishes like Roasted Hake, Grilled Pork Loin and Grappa Cured Salmon. They’ll also have a children’s menu available for the little ones.

#3 Gardner

Is Mom a vegetarian? No problem. Take her to Gardner where the focus lies on seasonal vegetables, quality and presentation. They’re accepting reservations for Mother’s Day Brunch from 10:30 AM-1:30 PM for $30/person. If you prefer to celebrate in the evening, Gardner is offering a 4 course prix fixe menu for $28/person. The patio is first come, first serve, but the modern, woodsy atmosphere inside where reservations are available is more than enough to please Mom.

#4 Russian House

If you’re looking for a cultural experience, take Mom to Russian House for Mother’s Day Brunch from 11 AM-4 PM. $32 for adults and $12.50 for kids gets you the unlimited brunch buffet with mimosas and Medovukha – a honey-based beverage similar to mead. Plus, all moms receive flowers upon dining.

#5 Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Cap off National Wildflower Week with Mom at the Wildflower Center with their events spanning from 10 AM-3 PM. A Wildflower Walk discussing spring native wildflowers in bloom will take place from 10-11 AM. They’ll be offering Wildflower Family Portraits printed on site by Kate Caudillo from 12-3 PM for a fee dependent upon photo size and Dr. Karen Clary, plant conservationist program manager at the Center, will treat Mom to a garden stroll while learning about the many wildflowers in bloom during her Wildflowers Revealed session from 2-3 PM.

#6 Chapparal Ice Center
