I recently went to great lengths to find matching picture frames of different sizes to put together a collection of my favorite family photos, from Eric’s side of the family and mine. The finished product was a beautiful collage that represented our history, precious memories and family pride.
Though we may stop and look at these photos every once in a while, we eventually take them for granted. But what if your economic status left you without the means to get keepsake photos taken of your family? Yes, they’re inaccessible luxuries for some.
Help-Portrait is changing this around the world, and Help-Portrait Austin is taking place this Saturday, December 8th. For only a few hours of your time, you can play a part in providing low-income Austin families with unique family portraits that they can display in their homes – at no cost to them. What a wonderful Christmas gift!
This video will probably make you cry. Can you imagine living 44 years and never having a picture taken of yourself and your dad? Yeah. Help-Portrait will have a profound affect on Austin community families this weekend, and you can have something to do with it.
Can I Volunteer Even If I’m Not a Photographer?
There are various tasks for Help-Portrait volunteers, from greeters to hair stylists to photographers and everything in between. You don’t have to be a photographer!
All you need to do is visit the Help-Portrait website, review the volunteer roles and sign up! The project will run from 7 AM-6 PM on Saturday, at the East Austin Boys & Girls Clubs (901 Thompson Dr.). You’re welcome to volunteer for the whole day, but there are half-day shifts if you’re not able to commit to the entire event.
If you plan to volunteer, please visit the site and sign up today. Help-Portrait Austin is finalizing their volunteer teams so they can be ready for Saturday!
A huge thank you to the coordinators and leadership team for this year’s Help-Portrait Austin. You’re doing a beautiful thing for our community.

Can you spare a few hours this Saturday to be a part of Help-Portrait Austin?
