The Co-op Food Court celebrated its grand opening in the lot behind University Co-op on September 26, 2013.
The new foodie haven features some big names in the local food truck scene, as well as lesser-known businesses that nonetheless offer delectable options for hungry visitors.
Here is the full list of food trucks at Co-op Food Court:
- Kebabalicious (Turkish style wraps and other Middle Eastern delicacies)
- Fullhouse BBQ (BBQ staples: brisket, sausage, ribs)
- A Touch of Fire Thai (Texas/Thai fusion)
- New Orleans Poboys & Gumbo Shop (Cajun sandwiches and seafood)
- Wright Bros. Dairy (ice cream treats!)
- Lucky J’s Chicken and Waffles (waffles with fried chicken and other imaginative variations)
- Lard Have Mercy (deep fried heart attacks disguised as delicious food)
- Pueblo Viejo (Taco stand – hint: try the breakfast tacos)
The yard is technically open 7 AM-8 PM Monday-Friday, 7 AM-5 PM on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. All of the trucks are contractually obligated to be open during certain hours, but some of them stretch the rules a bit. If you’re curious about a specific truck or two and planning a trip to check them out, I would highly recommend you call ahead.
The new park is located in a high-traffic location that’s convenient for UT students and the general public. Visitors can easily park in the San Antonio Parking Garage, which is literally a stone’s throw away. (But seriously, don’t be throwing stones in high-traffic locations.)
Word on the street is that September’s Grand Opening was a big success, but visitors have tapered off since then. So this is my challenge to the Austin community: be more than talk. We all rave about Austin’s food truck scene, but we have to get out to support local food trucks if we want the scene to thrive. We have enough yards being closed for development – let’s not let them close for lack of customers (like NATY).
