Texas Independence Day is March 2nd, and our favorite state will be 176 years old this year. Instead of sharing this piece of trivia around the water cooler and forgetting about it, take a suggestion from the Austinot:
Visit Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q between 2 and 4 PM on March 2nd, and buy some brisket! Each person can get a quarter pound of Rudy’s juicy brisket for only 32 cents. Amazing deal, huh?
But here’s what makes the deal even more amazing: All 32-cent collections will be given to volunteer firefighters in Texas, in partnership with the State Firemen’s & Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas.
Unless you took a timely vacation to the fjords of Norway, you were probably around for the searing Summer of 2011. Our volunteer firefighters played an indispensable role in protecting our land and homes!
So combine your love for good brisket with your appreciation for local heroes all over the state, and make your way to Rudy’s this Friday!
All Austin locations are participating. If you want to let your friends and family outside of Austin know about this special event, here is the full list of participating locations from RudysBBQ.com:

And here’s two more easy things you can do to support volunteer firefighters. If you “like” Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q on Facebook and follow Rudy’s on Twitter between now and March 9th, that’ll be $2 for the firefighters! $1 is being donated for every “like” or follow, through Rudy’s Follow2Support program. How easy is that?
the Austinot asks:
How were you affected by the terrible drought in 2011?

OMG I so wish I still lived back in Austin. Haven’t been to Rudy’s in almost a decade. Yum!
Eric Highland says
Yeah, just putting up this post this morning changed my dinner plans for tonight. hehe.. I hear you Alekzandar!
Steph says
Not available in Selma?
Eric Highland says
I didn’t see them on the list Steph. You might call them and find out. If they are participating, I’ll add them to the list on the blog post. Please let me know.
Emilylou says
So can you only get 1/4 lb for the 32 cents? then everything else is normal price?
Brittany Highland says
That’s correct! Not quite a meal, but still a good thing for a good cause. 🙂
Mariesa says
As a resident of San Antonio, where Rudy’s originated, I am very confused as to why San Antonio is not participating and may have to make a call here in a bit.
Eric Highland says
Please do! I’d love to hear the answer, and if they are participating add them to the list above. But the event is tomorrow, so get back to us quick if you hear anything! Thanks for visiting the Austinot.
