When I’m indulging in a weekend away from Austin, I cherish my time to relax. Mornings spent sipping cups of coffee, lingering over meals, and savoring time with family and friends are what I enjoy the most. It’s these simple pleasures Hye House Bed & Dinner seeks to elevate.

Just 20 miles east of Fredericksburg, Hye House Bed & Dinner offers a customized experience within a range of budgets, for both couples and small groups. Its location in the midst of the Texas Wine Trail ensures guests have plenty to do while they’re in the area.

Hye House Bed & Breakfast Dinner

If you’re a “but first coffee” kind of person, then you’re going to love Hye House’s meal schedule. Rather than offering a quick continental breakfast or rushed meal before checkout, enjoy an intimate dinner instead. What’s so different? You’re in charge, completely. A couple of weeks before your dinner reservation, you’ll receive a list of seasonal offerings: produce (pick your favorite vegetable and starch) and protein (varies by cut and price).

Menu offerings change, depending on what’s available from Hye Market’s garden, local farmers, and Sloan (Hye’s butcher). Customization is guaranteed, regardless of whether your dinner budget is $25 or $200.

All guests receive a private, family-style dining experience with Chef Matt Church. He’ll help you create your menu before you arrive. Then during your dinner, he’ll answer all of your questions. With Church at your table, you’ll learn where your food comes from, as well as how it’s been procured.

Food will be catered to your preferences, and dietary accommodations may be made upon request.

Lodging

Approximately an hour west of downtown Austin, Hye House Bed & Dinner makes for a convenient one-night stay or longer getaway in Texas wine country. The AirBnB listing shows the price for one couple overnight. Up to eight people can be accommodated, though, and each additional person is half the listed price.

With four beds and one bath, Hye House is an affordable option for both couples and small groups. There are three bedrooms and one sofa bed, offering flexibility for different types of groups.

Located right off of 290, Hye House is within walking distance to William Chris Vineyards and Hye Meadow Winery. Not a wino? Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas, is less than two miles south of Hye House. With close proximity to many Texas Wine Trail attractions and local shops, this location is convenient for a variety of itineraries.

Hye Market Restaurant and Tasting Room

Hye Market Restaurant and Tasting Room is right next to Hye House. As a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark, this building (first built in 1904 as a post office and business) continues to perform its original functions. Merchandise sold includes local products and resident artists’ work, and the post office where Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Lawrence F. O’Brien as U.S. Postmaster General in 1965 is still in operation.

Hye Market’s focus on quality and transparency supports the same vision as Hye House Bed & Dinner. Meat processing is done on site, and employees plant and harvest the dirt farm that supplies the restaurant. Owner Jason Cook enjoys introducing new tastes full of flavors, not binders or artificial flavorings. Even the wines he stocks are only from local wineries that grow their own fruit and touch every part of the wine-making process.
