Walking into Native hostel is like entering another world. A world full of hip decor, fantastic beats, and a team of people who look “too cool for school,” but are actually down to earth and friendly.
Since its opening in May 2017, Native has quietly climbed the ranks among the coolest places in Austin to grab drinks, get a bite to eat, hang with friends, meet new pals, and people watch.
Rest Your Head at Native Hostel
As a hostel, Native is a place to rest your head, equipped with 12 suites and 65 beds, plus the romper room that can accommodate up to 20 (can you say slumber party?). The space is also outfitted with a communal kitchen for guests, along with plenty of space to roam around.
Back in the day, the building was an old railroader hotel and nearby warehouse. The two have since been combined and transformed into this kitschy, boutique hostel. The design pays homage to history with a bare bones look, mixed with modern decor, courtesy of Icon Design + Build. The team behind Native’s vision includes well-known Austinites such as Michael Dickson (Kung Fu Saloon, Brew Exchange, Eberly), Antonio Madrid (Icon Design), and Will Steakley (Mohawk, Austin Surf Company).
Beyond Lodging: Food, Co-working, Events
Subtract the pretentious feeling of other establishments, add in a delectable menu available throughout the day, from early morning until late night, and the result is what Chef Virginia Pharr (formerly of Lady Luck) intended.
Native caters to everyone with dishes including a heaping portion of waffle fry nachos, a duck confit salad, and the delectable Buffalo seitan burger. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Plus, a coffee bar is right around the corner to keep you awake while co-working in Native’s sun-filled parlor room.
With such a large venue, events are booked throughout the week: Saturday morning yoga, late night/early morning rave parties with Daybreaker, Sunday movie nights. You name it and Native probably has an event for it. There’s no shortage of things to do at this up and coming space, for locals and out-of-town guests alike.
