Hi everybody! There is nothing like recording an Austin music podcast in the rain. I can kick back, sip come coffee and listen to some great tunes while the rain beats on my window. I hope you’re enjoying the precipitation as well.
I’ve decided to play a little more folk music today, in honor of the laid-back weather. Well, it’s not totally folk, but it’s folksy. Today, I want to introduce you to Heather Bishop, a musician living in Austin. Her music is melodic and emotional, calling up ideas of the West, romance and passionate adventure. Heather Bishop is an extremely multi-talented artist. She’s had a prolific career; her live music alone has spanned many festivals.
You may have seen her perform at Aquafest, South by Southwest, the Bob Marley Festivals, GoGirls Music Fest, or the Houston International Festival. She has also performed in fundraisers for Texas troops in Iraq, the American Cancer Society, and the National MS Society. Needless to say, Heather Bishop has done a lot in and for the city.
You may detect multiple musical influences in Heather’s style. She blends rock, folk, country and acoustic instrumentalism. The result is a chilling and overwhelming dive into one woman’s ideas, hopes and fears. While many of Heather Bishop’s songs retain a stripped-down acoustic style, she also puts out a lot of music with heavy bass and drum rhythms. Listen to the podcast to hear what I’m talking about. There is a good mix of high and low tempos, and the rest of Heather’s music follows a similar eclectic style.
You can keep up with Heather Bishop by liking her Facebook profile. Also, you can listen to and purchase her current CD if you enjoy what you hear. You can also find her CD on iTunes.
