Austin’s Best Cookie? The winner is on this plate. I’d invite you over to share some, but I’m afraid all that’s left are crumbs.
I have a tough job as a cookie reviewer. Having to go out there and hunt down the best cookie in Austin is a job full of challenges, but it pays well…in chocolate chips, walnuts, toffee, etc. Being the cookie connoisseur that I am, I was up for the task. But where to start with so many good cookies in this town?
Austin has many wonderful bakeries and cafes that make and bake amazing cookies of all kinds! I’m certain I’ve only covered a small territory of cookie heaven. Here are some leads to get you started.
Notable Nibbles
Many thanks to those who donated and participated knowingly and unknowingly. Cookie runners up in no particular order…
Upper Crust Bakery – A pretty perfect chocolate chip cookie.
San Francisco Bakery – Overall, great cookies.
Pacha Organic Café – Addictive Pecan Drops. “Good enough to hurt your feelings,” as Drew Riley said. Delicate, buttery and not too sweet. Tastes like Christmas at Grandma’s.
Wild Wood Bakehouse – Superbly sweet choices with gluten free and dairy free cookies.
Tiff’s Treats – Classic, soft and best when warm.
Top 4 Best Cookies in Austin
If you enjoyed the runners up, get your mouth ready for the 4 best cookies in Austin (in my humble opinion). Drum roll please!
4th Place: Lee’s Meat Market
Noted for a balance of chewiness and a bit of cookie crunch around the edges, Lee’s Meat Market bakes a homemade chocolate chip cookie and offers it to you for just $1.00.
Who knew one could find a fabulous cookie in a meat market of all places?! I would never have known about this place if it wasn’t recommended for quality deli meats and sandwiches. Lo and behold, this was THE cookie that sparked my hunt for Austin’s Best.

3rd Place: The Steeping Room
The Salted Toffee Chunk cookie from The Steeping Room nearly won my heart and taste buds. My eyes are lit up just by reminiscing. So why is it not my favorite cookie in Austin? Honestly, I’m not sure. For some of you, this cookie IS going to be your #1 pick.
And if you like tea and cookies at the same time, you will be beyond pleased to know there are two locations in Austin to experience such ecstasy: North Lamar and the Domain.

2nd Place: Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery
Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery has been around for decades and is one of Austin’s original coffee shops. Their baked from scratch goodies are delicious! You won’t go wrong with whichever cookie you choose. They each get solid 10’s in the Mmmmm-Ness and Chewiness categories. Plus, the size is right for sharing as well as self-indulging.
My favorite is the Chocolate Ginger cookie, which takes 2nd Place in my search for the best cookies in Austin!

1st Place, Best Cookie in Austin: Walton’s Fancy and Staple
The Ginger cookie at Walton’s Fancy and Staple was so good that it leaped into my belly before I could take a picture of it!
My words are few. This cookie speaks for itself. Moist. Magnificent. Chewy. Mouth watering. Take my word for it and tell Walton’s I sent you!

And lastly, before the cookie crumbles are picked off the plate and devoured, I have a question for you…
@theAustinot wants to know:
Is there a cookie I’ve overlooked and you’re shocked that it’s not on this list? What’s your favorite cookie in Austin?

I agree with a couple of people here about P. Terry’s and Noble Sandwiches having great cookies. One of my other area favorites I actually stumbled upon thanks for a wonderful customer who brought them in for me and my co-workers and that is Eileen’s Colossal Cookies in Cedar Park:
