Savor the Flavors of Spring at Kerbey Lane Cafe

Spring has sprung! At least at Kerbey Lane Cafe, that is. If you’re over winter, you might try warming up with one of these earthy dishes.

I recently stopped by Austin’s beloved diner for the debut of its spring 2018 menu. Here are a few of the highlights.

Thank you to Kerbey Lane Cafe for hosting me at its media preview for the purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.

Spring 2018 Appetizers

Crispy Fried Brussel Sprouts

I had no idea Brussels sprouts were so polarizing until I dined at Kerbey Lane Cafe with my fellow Contributing Blogger, who was quick to proclaim her utter distaste for the vegetable. It seems Brussels sprouts fall into the same category as cilantro. People either love ’em or hate ’em. If you love ’em, then order up a batch at Kerbey Lane. They’re fried until crisp and glazed with tamarind ginger sauce. The perfect pre-entree snack.

Spring 2018 Entrees

Naked Chile Relleno

My server claimed the Naked Chile Relleno was one of the tastiest and prettiest items on the spring menu and he wasn’t wrong. The classic poblano pepper dish gets an upgrade with blue cheese, queso fresco, caramelized onions, and chicken breast. Once plated, it’s drizzled with achiote for a spicy kick. Every bit as good as it looks.

Brisket Mac & Cheese

Where’s the beef? In the new Kerbey Lane Cafe Brisket Mac & Cheese, that’s where! Tender brisket marries macaroni, three kinds of cheese, green chili sauce, and panko breadcrumbs to create a hearty dish sure to cure your winter blues.

Banana French Toast

Kerbey Lane Cafe, also known as the place where you never have to choose between banana bread and French toast. That’s right, these kitchen magicians are magically combining banana bread and French toast to create a one-of-a-kind dish. Think large, spongy slices of banana bread, cloaked in maple syrup and powdered sugar for added sweetness.

Portabello Pasta

What happens when you combine campanelle pasta, portobello cream sauce, and spinach, then top it off with fresh shaved Parmesan? Deliciousness! But don’t take my word for it. Swing by to savor this filling dish with earthy flavors.
