Anyone who’s brave/crazy enough to attempt to produce a film in two days has my respect.
Starting tonight at 7 PM, 600 Austin filmmakers will scramble to do just that. They have their cast and crew organized, they’ve scouted their locations and they have their film equipment. All that’s left is for them to receive the mystery information they need to prove that they’re legit: a prop, a line of dialogue and a character. These three elements must be worked into their 48 hour film, if they want their film to qualify.
There are three ways for the general public to get involved in the 48 Hour Film Project and support Austin’s film scene:
- Film Screenings: 6 PM and 8 PM, August 28-30th at the Scottish Rite Theatre, 207 West 18th Street. Qualifying short films will screen over three nights. See juror selections like Best Use of Prop, Best Cinematography, Best Use of Line of Dialogue and Audience Favorite. Tickets are available now through The Long Center’s website.
- Best Of Screenings and Awards Ceremony: 7 PM, September 24th at The Long Center Terrace, 701 West Riverside Drive. This is the culmination of the 2012 48 Hour Film Project – Austin. Tickets are available now through The Long Center’s website.
- If you see a film team running around Austin this weekend between 7 PM on Friday and 7 PM on Sunday, show them some love! Don’t cut them off at the stop sign, and make their cup of coffee extra strong! They’re trying to accomplish something pretty monumental.
Austin is known for its film scene. When films are produced here, our economy benefits, and the artistry and creativity of our community blossoms. A 48 hour short film may not be a Hollywood blockbuster, but every filmmaker has to start somewhere. I encourage you to support this year’s teams…and enjoy the show!
